In a recent interview with Apple Music Africa Now, Nigerian singer, Fireboy, revealed that he was unable to see the face of Nigerian music icon Lagbaja during their collaboration for the new album ‘Adedamola,’ due to Lagbaja’s signature mask.
Fireboy opened up about the collaborative process for ‘Adedamola,’ particularly the track ‘Back & Forth’ featuring Lagbaja.
Despite the significance of working with such a legendary artist, Fireboy shared a memorable detail from their recording session: he never actually saw Lagbaja’s face.
The iconic artist was in full disguise, wearing his renowned mask throughout the session.

Fireboy expressed his amazement at Lagbaja’s commitment to his anonymity, saying, “I had a few interesting thoughts; I wanted to ask him if I could see his face!
“But you know, all that matters is that we made the music. That’s what makes Lagbaja, Lagbaja. In the Yoruba language, ‘Lagbaja’ means ‘Mr Nobody,’ an anonymous person; so it’s only right that I do not get to see his face.”
“I’m glad he got to be on the record—a special person, a special artist, a special record.”
The album Adedamola carries a nostalgic theme, and Fireboy deliberately included music legends like Lagbaja to enhance this element.
He remarked, “It means a lot to me getting a legend like Lagbaja on that record, especially in the current musical landscape.
“Right from the very beginning, I knew this record was special, and I could not wait for everyone to listen to it.”
